If you’re at all familiar with TikTok, and specifically TikTok recipes, there’s likely a new trending recipe on your For You Page every time you open the app. That’s because, in addition to being a breeding ground for makeup trends and clever storage solutions, TikTok is packed with a bevy of delicious dishes that are usually easy to make and don't often require a trip to the grocery store or cost a lot of money. While years past have gifted us with dishes like baked feta pasta and cloud bread, 2022 was all about meals like the grinder sandwich and Marry Me Chicken.

With the year set to wind down in a matter of days, the folks at Google put together a list of the top 10 trending TikTok recipes of 2022. While these recipes aren’t necessarily the most popular ones on the platform, they are the ones that had the highest spikes in traffic over a sustained period in 2022, as compared to 2021.

Keep reading to find out which viral dishes made the cut!

Cinnamon rolls

As breakfast fans know, cinnamon rolls are nothing new, but the TikTok take on this morning staple transforms those canned cinnamon rolls you find at the grocery store into a drool-worthy dish. By adding a bath of heavy whipping cream, melted butter, ground cinnamon, and light brown sugar to your cinnamon roll dish before baking, the treats, which you ice after they come out of the oven, are ridiculously buttery and moist. Plus, they taste homemade!

Pink sauce

While TikTok’s pink sauce wasn’t beloved by all, the brightly colored condiment certainly had a moment on the social media platform. Made, in part, with dragon fruit, honey, sunflower seed oil, chili and garlic, the sauce was mostly slathered on chicken fingers and other fried foods before its safety was called into question.

Grinder sandwich

There are many things to love about the viral grinder sandwich, but our favorite part is that this epic, shareable meal can be customized to your liking. Typically overstuffed and made with good sandwich bread, deli meats (like salami and ham), crunchy lettuce (typically iceberg) mixed with onions, pickled peppers and mayo, sliced cheese and sliced tomato, this sandwich doesn’t disappoint. Throw on some capers, crumbled bacon or other add-ons of your choice to complete the meal.

Green goddess salad

Chopped cabbage, thinly sliced cucumbers, and chives make up the base of this green salad, but TikTok users know that the star here is really the equally green dressing, which actually transforms the whole thing into more of a glorified dip. Made with garlic, a shallot, lemon juice, chives, olive oil, walnuts, cashews, basil, spinach, nutritional yeast, and salt and pepper, this component makes it totally acceptable (some may say necessary) to eat this healthy “salad” atop a chip—just like you would guacamole.

Cowboy caviar

Speaking of dips, cowboy caviar was another one that TikTok users simply couldn’t get enough of in 2022. Decidedly more colorful than the green goddess salad, this dip is a great way to use up canned goods, while also making it your own with fruit, crumbled cheese, and more. A typical bowl of cowboy caviar includes jalapeños, a red onion, a yellow, green, and orange bell pepper, corn, beans, black olives, cheese, fresh fruit, and a light, citrus-y dressing, but feel free to add some of your own favorites so you can customize it to your taste.

Marry Me Chicken

While we have Ina Garten to thank for the phenomenon that is engagement chicken, Marry Me Chicken is all TikTok. This rich chicken dish, which is made with butter, heavy whipping cream, chicken broth, red pepper flakes, Italian seasoning, and sun-dried tomatoes, earned its moniker because it’s just that delicious. Salmon rice bowl

If you’re familiar with this recipe, it’s probably because of influencer Emily Mariko, who actually shepherded this dish to virality in 2021. The California-based TikTok user’s initial recipe was made with a leftover piece of salmon she shredded with a fork, leftover white rice, a drizzle of soy sauce, sriracha, and Kewpie mayonnaise, avocado slices, seaweed pieces, and a small plate of kimchi on the side. Since then, dozens of different variations on that recipe have made their way to the TikTok universe. If you're craving salmon, give this Noodles With Flaked Salmon recipe a whirl. It's not as easy to make as a salmon rice bowl, but it's definitely delicious!

Pot roast

The classic and comforting recipe, which also happens to share a name with a TikTok-famous cat, is the perfect cold weather dish. TikTokers seemingly love all varieties of pot roast, but the one that’s been going viral as of late is made in an Instant Pot. Not only does making pot roast in the Instant Pot mean less work and cleanup for you, but it also yields a scrumptious meal with tender meat that you’ll want to make again and again. This easy pot roast recipe doesn’t use an Instant Pot, but we promise it’s worth it. For a slow-cooker version, try this recipe instead.

Mexican rice

You can never go wrong with rice, and the Mexican rice recipe that was trending on TikTok earlier this year is no exception. The rice, which is typically cooked with blended tomato, onion, garlic and several spices, boasts a rich red hue that’s hard to miss. If you’d prefer a step-by-step guide, check out our red rice recipe, which calls for chicken broth, chili powder, and tomato sauce, among other ingredients.

Crab rangoon

The popular Chinese takeout choice had a moment on TikTok earlier this year, in part because it’s actually really easy to make. The filling generally includes cream cheese, imitation (or real) crab meat, chopped scallions, and sesame oil, though some TikTok users also add ingredients such as garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and fish sauce. Once the filling is mixed together, all you need to do is wrap it in store-bought wonton wrappers and fry it. The result is a delicious, party-approved appetizer that’s ready in minutes.
